Around the House Saturdays: In the Studio Edition

It has finally begun...nesting. The baby bump is getting bigger (I'm at 18 1/2 weeks now) and I've finally begun sewing the many projects that I have compiled for this little one.


Of course this first project is more for Mommy, but still, it's something I wouldn't make if we weren't expecting...so it's kind of for Baby, right?


And obviously this project had to be the hardest and most tedious project I've ever made, which explains why it took me 2 1/2 weeks to make. A little bit here... A little bit there... A phone call to my Mom to help me figure out what steps "a" through "h" mean... and Voila! You get the "Everything Bag" from Amy Butler's Little Stitches for Little Ones.


Never in my life have I worked with some of the supplies needed for this bag. Fusible fleece. Elastic. Peltex? Who ever heard of Peltex? It was definitely a challenge (a 4 out of 5 for difficulty, according to the sewing goddess herself), but it was well worth it.

I absolutely adore how this bag doesn't look like a traditional diaper bag. Instead, it's a cute tote that I can carry around with baby stuff inside, but still look cute and fashionable. Thank you Amy Butler. Although your patterns are quite intimidating sometimes, it's well worth it to stick at it and complete the project.


Now don't think I've left my Hubby out or that I'm going to make him carry this bag around town when he takes Baby from place to place. I plan on making the "Dad Bag" from Anna Maria Horner's Handmade Beginnings for him. He's super excited about it and I am, too. Of course, it's a pattern that once again looks intimidating as all get out, but I think if I could make my bag, I can make just about anything now... Unless it involves triangles... Triangles just know how to erk my nerves the right way to make me want to quit a project within 2 seconds...

Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys their Memorial Day weekend and doesn't get too sunburned at those cook-outs and pool parties. I know I'll be lathering up a bit more this time and making sure I don't miss any spots like I did last weekend.

We Walked About to See the Art

A couple of weekends ago, the Hubby and I enjoyed a day of yard saling and art walking. I have no photos to share of the items we discovered whilst meandering through other people's 25 cent items, but I can tell you that I got a fabulous deal on some barely used newborn onesies (5 for a dollar to be exact), some little pants and hoodies for our little one who will need the snuggly warmth in the chilly October weather when he/she arrives, and some very loved children's books to add to our ever-growing collection.

I do, however, have some wonderful photos from the Broad Ripple Art Fair. It was a perfect day for the two of us to enjoy. The weather was mild and sunny and our energy was in full gear.

The Indianapolis Art Center puts on the Art Fair as one of their biggest annual fundraisers. The Art Center is a fabulous place for any person who desires to learn a craft. We were actually able to go into many of the workshops/studios and see masters and students working away on their art.

The food was oh so very yummy. They had local vendors set up all around the grounds, as well as vendors selling the traditional "fair food." No outdoor event is complete without funnel cake and lemonade.

The sugary magnetic force of Arndt's Fundgery stand drew us in. There was no escaping the free samples of fudge. And of course we had to support the cavity-inducing salesman by buying a box of our desired choices, white chocolate cheese cake and chocolate walnut.

The grounds of the Art Center are absolutely beautiful. I loved these beautiful looking and beautiful smelling flowers hanging from the trellesis's all along the pathways.

This little artist was fun to watch. Children could stop by this booth and contribute their own paint brush strokes to the canvas.


And of course, where else would you see a larger-than-life flamingo? I don't think this one would work in your yard though...

All in all, what a great day. So many talented people. Such lively entertainment. We will definitely do it again next year.

What Warm Weather Does To Me

It's warm here. Like 80+ degree temperatures. It's wonderful. Amazing. Extraordinary.
And because of it, today I have a huge desire to want to be at the beach. Maybe it's because I spent 3 hours at the pool yesterday soaking up some sun. Or maybe it's that tingly feeling that my skin has from that slight sunburn in the one random area on my leg that the sunscreen managed to miss (how does that happen?). Either way, I feel completely unsatisfied in this land-locked land of Indiana. I'm yearning for the sand between my toes. The constant swish and swash of the waves along the shore. That random yell of a seagull.

*Sigh*
