Off To Market We Go

Last Saturday, the Hubby and I went to the Greenwood Farmer's Market and had a good ol' time. When we lived in Chicago, we would go to the Farmer's Market every Saturday morning and would come home with fresh produce and flowers.
Last summer we were able to enjoy the Wednesday Farmer's Market in downtown Indy when I was still working downtown, but now that I don't work in walking distance to it, we've felt a little market-deprived. So...all that to say...we were able to go last weekend and were very excited.
We came home with fresh eggs, home-made salsa, zucchini for making zuccini bread, Honey Crisp Apples, a dozen of the best corn we've had since moving to Indiana.

She Sells Seashells

You all know how much I love shells and how much I love putting them all over our home. Well, a couple of weeks ago, Sheilagh, a wonderful woman from our church, brought me a lovely little collection of shells and a delightful book on how to identify any type of shell in North America. My favorite thing about the book is that it was published in 1968, so it has a lot of vintage character. I just love it! Don't you?

Around the House Saturdays - Recycled Home Edition

Baskets and Boxes and Crates - OH MY!
You all know how much the Hubby and I are infatuated with re-purposing various antique items. Well, I thought I would do another recycled home version of my "Around the House Saturdays" post. We've recently come across some really great storage items that are just waiting to find new homes within our home. This first item is an old food crate that the Hubby found at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago. It's absolutely amazing. Once our new bookshelves are complete, we plan on putting in on the bottom shelf and filling it with magazines. These crates are also great for hanging on the wall and being used as wall shelves for various knick-knacks.The next items were given to us by our friend Theresa. Her mom has a basement loaded with antique stuff that she's trying to get rid of. We plan on heading over there as soon as we can borrow a truck so we can haul some of the bigger stuff.
For right now, we have an apple basket and some fun wooden hat boxes. The basket will be great for storing quilts...but not I'm not quite sure what to do with the hat boxes yet... Any ideas on the hat boxes?

Bonkers for Buttermilk

Last weekend the Hubby bought some buttermilk as an addition to his Southern Fried Chicken recipe. And since he didn't need the entire half-gallon for the meal, we've been doing everything possible with buttermilk all week.

First, was the Sunday Night Fried Chicken...
Then we had Belgium Waffles for dinner on Wednesday. Unfortunately, we gobbled those up before I could get my hands on the camera. So if you want to see something like what we had, you can check out this post.

Now this morning takes the cake...or is that "takes the biscuit...?"
I found a very easy recipe for made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits and went to town...I mean the kitchen. (I apologize for this post being riddled with cliches. I just can't help myself). While I was making them, the Hubby was down in the garage working on the shelves that he is making for our dining room. It was like being in Little House on the Prairie. I was baking from scratch, while he was doing carpentry work. Now if only I could go skipping around in a field of flowers...Now when it came to these biscuits, we didn't just put a little butter on them and call it a day. Oh no sir-ee. We fixed 'em in every way imaginable (except biscuits and gravy b/c we didn't have sausage gravy).
Starting from the left and going clock-wise:
One biscuit smothered in apple butter.
Two biscuits loaded with sausage patties and fried eggs.
One biscuit kissed with honey and butter.
One biscuit jammed with grape jelly.

Can you say home-style cookin? Mmm...mmmm.mmm!
