A Valentine for your Sweety

While antiquing back in December with my mom, I stumbled upon a delightful vintage Valentine that I just had to have. Long ago it was given to a girl named Marjorie. How enchanting!

Being inspired by the blog Jane's Apron and her talent of merging vintage prints with fun textures to make adorable cards, I decided to do the same with these delightful Valentine's.

And as a special Valentine for all of you lovely bloggers, you can download these home-made Valentine's by clicking here. Just print them on card stock and enjoy sharing these little love notes with the sweeties in your lives!

A Notion or Two January Block

This year I have become a part of a wonderful quilting bee called A Notion or Two. Yesterday I finally finished my block for Amy. It was the first time that I've ever done applique, but it was pretty fun.

Hooray! A Snow Day!

For the past 2 1/2 days, Southern Indiana has been hit with quite a snow storm...which has meant 2 days of no school for me! Just look at our car and parking lot - do you think I could get out of that?

So what do 2 adults do on this wonderful snow day? Get all bundled up and make a snowman of course!

We tried to get the pets involved, but they didn't feel like getting all bundled up for our play-time.

The snow was quite fluffy and it took a lot of work to build our snowman up, so we decided to go with a shorter snow woman. We named her Paula because of her rockin' Paula Abdul-like hat and her beautiful flowing dress.

And being the "child" that I am, I had to make a snow angel. What a heavenly day...tehehe!

And this final picture is dedicated specifically to Mrs. Williamson's Kindergarten class in Prince George, Virginia (many of whom have never seen this much snow in their little 5 and 6 year old lives). Mrs. Williamson is my wonderful Mom and she called this morning to say thank you for the Social Studies, Math, and Science lesson that our snow storm was able to provide for her delightful class. Look kids - almost 11 inches snow! Pull out your rulers and see just how much that is!

Self-Portrait

So I'm taking a video class this quarter and our first assignment was to create a self-portrait in any way that we saw fit. Well since I don't have any experience with making videos and we don't have a video camera, I decided to create a photo montage of the most important things in my life. My Hubby knows how to use iMovie so he helped me out and we created it together. Watch & enjoy!

Ball Jars & Austrameria

Yesterday, I spent the entire day cleaning the house and boy did it need it! While I tidied up here and there, my Hubby (who had a bit of cabin fever) ventured around town and brought back some wonderful treasures that just made me smile.

He went to one of our local antique stores and found these great Ball jars and bought me a beautiful bouquet of Austrameria and Baby's Breath.

*Sigh*
Oh how I love him...

Martha Does it Again

My Hubby recorded today's episode of Martha Stewart for me so that I could see her make this wonderful paper craft. Just look at these beautiful cards!

Such adorable cards using her new "Edge Punch." I just have to get my hands on one of those!

Coming Along

I promise my Quilting Bee friends...I am working on my square. My homework has been giving me a nice kick in the pants this past week.

Every time I sit at my desk and work on my assignments, my craft table will catch my eye and beckon me over. The beautiful greens call my name while my sewing machine tells me how much it misses me.

*Sigh*

But alas, I must prioritize my tasks so as not to drive myself mad. Perhaps Saturday will have some time open so that I might piece these lovelies together...

Why Fly South?

...When you could fly to Indiana?
Okay. So apparently the geese of Indiana are either completely geographically confused or they are just plain lazy. I don't know what the deal is, but every goose within a 25 mile radius of Greenwood, Indiana has invaded the pond behind our apartment.

Our pond is one of the few that still has its fountain running, which means an open source of water, so it's basically the warmest spot in the area for these water-loving, honking birds.

Just look at 'em! They are literally everywhere and leaving their poop everywhere as well (Eeeewwww).

And it's not gonna get any better either. Nope. They'll stick around 'til Spring and lay their nests all over the place. And there's no messin' with 'em when it's mating season. They're mean little buggers and they're not afraid to let you know that you've stepped into their territory.

Well, I'm off to work on some homework while listening to the "Honking of the Birds." Such a melodious song...Honk!

Saturday Mornings With Biscuits & Gravy

At least one Saturday out of every month, the Hubby and I go over to Joel and Kellie's house for biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, and banana bread. Their house is always filled with excitement (especially when their four beautiful children are playing freeze tag in the house). During our visit, Kellie and I will talk about all things sewing, crafting and quilting, while Joel and Dustin listen to all kinds of music and pick out their favorite guitar leads, bass riffs, and drum solos.

Well today was one of those Saturdays and I decided to bring my camera with me so I could photograph their newly painted and decorated home. Kellie has an amazing eye for Goodwill treasures and she always has something new to show me while we visit. Here are a few photos of their quaint little house.

Pinny Finds a House

Over the summer I went through a lot of my childhood bookshelves and found the many treasures that I used to read over and over again as a child. One of those books was called "Pinny Finds a House."

Pinny and Victor are "Dutch dolls," tiny jointed toys that were first made in Europe in the eighteenth century. After Peter Firmin saw "The Smallest Doll in the World" in a museum, he carved this set of Dutch dolls, using ebony and white wood. His grandchildren's request for a story provided the final inspiration to bring Pinny and Victor to life.

Victor is the smallest sailor in the world and he wished that somebody lived in the china house next to his sailing boat.

The china house has different visitors, but no one ever stays long enough.

Peg the Peddler Doll showed up one day and that's when Victor discovered Pinny.

But he had to trade something with Peg in order to make Pinny his neighbor. He found a diamond ring which was a perfect trade.

And so Pinny was able to live in the china house next to Victor.

This of course is just a brief summary of the story. If you truly want to enjoy the entire story and all of the illustrations, I highly suggest you get a copy. It will definitely be a story that is treasured by your little ones. I'm excited for the day when I'm able to read it to our children.

P.S. Check out this blog for a great give-away.

Curiouser & Curiouser...

...is what Alice said with each new adventure that she encountered while walking through Wonderland. And this, my friend, is how Arthur Rackham illustrated her in the 1907 version of the Lewis Carroll classic.

My dear friend Jamie found a reprint of the 1907 version of this beloved classic and gave it to me today. I was just so thrilled.

In the past month, I have received three different versions of this beloved tale and just love the imagination that was used for each visual style produced.

I must say though, Rackham's illustrations could very well be my favorite version.

Alice in Wonderland

When I was growing up, every time I visited my Nanny we would watch the 1985 version of "Alice in Wonderland." It was a made-for-TV movie and my Nanny recorded when it first premiered. It had a huge cast of amazing actors and was so full of imagination and wonderful costumes.

Well, my oh so wonderful Hubby randomly stumbled upon it at the store the other day and bought it! It was a "jump out of my seat and dance for joy" moment. I was oh so very excited!

In my opinion, it's one of the best adaptations of the Lewis Carroll classic. I mean, the cast list says it all: Carol Channing, Sammy Davis Jr., Karl Maiden, Jack Warden, Telly Savalas, Ringo Starr, Jonathan Winters, Ernest Borgnine, Shelley Winters, Robert Morley, Pat Morita, Lloyd Bridges, Beau Bridges, Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca, Red Buttons, John Stamos, Scott Baio, Patrick Duffy, Sherman Hemsley, Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme, Anthony Newley, Steve Allen, Jayne Meadows, Roddy McDowall, Ann Jillian, Sally Struthers and Merv Griffin.
